Collages using Recycled Papers in Progress

About Me

Hi, and welcome to Lisa Sue Expressions! My northern parents gave me a southern name, so I found my way to Georgia, where I’ve put down roots and am growing my photography and art business, a family of three girls and a garden that is just a bit on the wild side. In an increasingly frenetic world, I am on a mission to use my photography and art to capture the moments that let us pause and appreciate family, friends, travel and nature.

I began as a photographer. For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to photographs, drawn into the worlds and stories they tell. As a child, I remember poring over the sepia toned photographs of my parents and grandparents, wondering about the lives lived before I came to be. As a college student, my heart beat quicker when I took my first darkroom class and watched the exposed images appearing in the chemical bath like the magic of Merlin. Of course, I am digital now, but the wonder and magic of photography remains. I still marvel at the stories that I and my subjects can tell in a photograph and how that photograph will continue to tell a story into the future.

Now, I have taken my love for photography and composition in a new direction. I create collages, prints and mixed media art using my own photography, drawings, and sketches. I love including recycled papers like old book pages, sheet music and business envelope liners. I am inspired by nature, especially the flowers and plants in my garden, which I incorporate in my modern, abstract, mixed media designs.

Credentials: As a photographer, I first trained at the University of Georgia’s School of Journalism, and after leaving a career practicing law, honed my photography skills at the Focus Photography School. I now have been a family photographer for over 20 years. In 2023, I began exhibiting my photography and art in local galleries such as the Alpharetta Arts Center, Johns Creek Art Center and Ventulett Gallery, as well as online at www.gallery35NYC. My art has appeared in national magazines such as Somerset Studios and recently won an honorable mention in the Atlanta Collage Society’s “Cutting Loose,” exhibition.
